Giving Change

In 2010, Seed of Hope’s impact on the Bhekulwandle community grew remarkably. Your partnership through financial support helps us improve the future for many. Here are a few highlights:

clinic1Our health program served 1040 people for basic checkups, counselling, HIV testing and in-home visits.

lifewiseOur health team also developed and ran two LifeWise HIV education courses for the community.

farmersWe trained ten local farmers to use low-cost, sustainable methods to improve their soil and increase yields through the Foundations for Farming process – a small beginning that is already showing promise as the crops mature.

telling storyForty-eight people living with HIV completed our Telling Your Story conference, and stepped up to the microphone to break the silence, and stigma, of their diagnosis.

sewingThe sewing skills class has grown to nearly 10 regular attendees, and is continually adding new projects that the ladies sew for their families and for sale, supplementing their income while they learn.

clinic470 community members received free health checkups and medication, along with the opportunity to have HIV tests and vision testing at a weekend medical clinic in October. Nearly 100 pairs of glasses were distributed, and 100 people found out their HIV status, all in two days (without running water)!

outreachSeed of Hope’s children and youth outreach leaders spent part of November and December revamping their programs for greater impact in 2011 among the 130 or more children who attend daily after-school programs.

I hope you will take a few moments during this busy time of year to browse the photo galleries to see what we are accomplishing together.

The Seed of Hope team and I would like to send you and your family our best wishes for a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
